FFXIV Player Character Art

 

The thrill of the upcoming FFXIV expansion has inspired me to create some fan art featuring my own Warrior of Light. Fan art for your own player character is very popular among FFXIV players, and I am no different. What I had in mind was to incorporate my character into the official FFXIV posters. This, of course, would first require changing my character into the art style of all the posters.

In all of the FFXIV posters and game trailers there is a stand-in used to represent every player character. He is a tall brown-haired man just referred to as “Meteor Survivor.” You find him in every expansion game poster. This is great because with a little effort I can just replace the stand-in with my own player character.

 

I spent some time creating my white mage with a dress that is a little different from what I wear in game. This is because my in-game outfit is the same as a main character (Ryne) from the Shadowbringers expansion. It would look strange if two characters were wearing the same outfit right next to each other in the poster.

 


Although it’s not perfect, I’m pretty happy with how it looks overall. One day I’ll have it printed out and hang it above my gaming computer. Right now, I’m working on a second poster from the Shadowbringers expansion. It’s mostly done but I’m having trouble matching the canvas texture. If it turns out well I’ll post that one as well.

Writing Your Own Children’s Book

  During of the great Covid lockdown of 2020, I decided to write a children’s book to pass the time. My inspiration came from a childhood memory involving a confusing Christmas gift from my grandmother. She had gifted me a bicycle tire pump. As I tore through the wrapping paper I got really excited believing there must also be a bicycle hidden somewhere nearby. I searched the house high and low but it turned out it was all just a misunderstanding. Grandma was simply unaware I didn’t have a bicycle, and had no need for a tire pump. I’m sure many can recall a time of receiving a similar mismatched gift during birthdays or holidays. I thought it would be fun to write a story where all those strange gifts turn out to be unexpectedly useful after all. The story came together relatively quickly. Curious Christmas Mice

For Christmas this year I decided to crochet for my friends and family tiny magical mice that mimic LA Burdick's Signature Chocolate Mice . If you haven’t seen this chocolate shop’s famous mice I highly encourage looking them up, they are adorable and delicious. To make my Christmas gifts I scoured Ravelry for a mouse pattern and quickly found Lucy Collin's Little Kissing Mice Amigurumi . The mice were undeniably cute, but the proportions weren't right for this project. The face and body were too long to match LA Burdick’s mice and they were much larger than what I had in mind. In the end I had to make my own pattern through the process of trial and error to get the dimensions just right. Overall, I’m happy with how my pattern turned out. My mice are small and short, with tiny faces that match LA Burdick’s chocolate mice pretty well.
